#K12ArtChallenge PERCEPTION: Optical Illusions

This week we will observe optical Illusions. They are all around us, we experience them all the time without even being aware of it. A simple example are Mach Bands. Looking at the strips of different values of gray, it appears that there is a gradient within each strip. However the strips are completely flat. It is worth noting that this wasn't discovered until the late 1800s!

Visual illusions exist at the edges of what our system has evolved to handle, and as such they serve as a powerful window into the brain.
